Cognate with Northern Thai ᩈᩢ᩠᩵ᨦ, Khün ᩈᩢ᩠᩵ᨦ, Lao ສັ່ງ (sang), Lü ᦉᧂᧈ (ṡang¹), Tai Dam ꪎꪰ꪿ꪉ, Shan သင်ႇ (sàng), Tai Nüa ᥔᥒᥱ (sǎng), Phake ꩬ︀င︀် (saṅ), Ahom 𑜏𑜂𑜫 (saṅ), Zhuang daengq and saengq (dialectal). From Proto-Tai *saŋᴮ (“to blow the nose”). Cognate with Northern Thai ᩈᩢ᩠᩵ᨦ, Khün ᩈᩢ᩠᩵ᨦ, Lao ສັ່ງ (sang), Shan သင်ႇ (sàng), Tai Nüa ᥔᥒᥱ (sǎng), Zhuang saengq (as in saengq mug).
