Borrowed from Old Khmer saṃrāp, saṃrap, samrāp (“for; in order to”), extended forms of *srāp, *srap (“to be ready, to be prepared; to be apt, to be fit, etc”), which, in turn, are extended forms of rap, *rāp (“to enumerate, to calculate; to order, to arrange; etc”). Cognate with Modern Khmer សំរាប់ (sɑmrap), Lao ສຳລັບ (sam lap).
